Language Diversity, Policy, and Politics in Multilingual Sweden

Sofia Malmgård, Arina Stoenescu, and an adult audience at the International Library in Stockholm celebrated Europe Day with a talk based on »Sveriges språkflora: handbok för ett flerspråkigt samhälle« (Sweden’s Language Flora: A Handbook for a Multilingual Society) by Sofia Malmgård and Morena Azbel Schmidt. The discussion explored language diversity, policies, and the politics of minority languages in Sweden, prompting many engaged questions from the audience.

The group included multilingual participants, all eager to share and learn from one another’s experiences. The conversation was so lively that the ending time seemed to arrive much too soon.

Thank you to everyone who contributed with thoughtful and varied perspectives on multilingualism!
